A subsequent systematic shift to even higher δ¹³C values, from −11.5‰ in the cave drips to about −8‰ calculated for the solution film on top of stalagmites, is related to degassing on the stalagmite top and equilibration with the cave air. Mass-balance modelling of C fluxes reveals that a very small percentage of isotopically depleted cave air CO₂ evolves from the first phase of dripwater degassing, and shifts the winter cave air composition toward slightly more depleted values than those calculated for equilibrium. The systematic ¹³C-enrichment from the soil to the stalagmites at Grotta di Ernesto is independent of drip rate, and forced by the difference in pCO₂ between cave water and cave air. This implies that speleothem δ¹³C values may not be simply interpreted either in terms of hydrology or soil processes.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:16:02 AEDT ]]> Computational fluid dynamics modeling of NOᵪ reduction mechanism in oxy-fuel combustion https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:9969 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:14:23 AEDT ]]> Governing carbon in the Australian city: local government responses https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21699 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:06:26 AEDT ]]> Deuterium retention in the carbon co-deposition layers deposited by magnetron sputtering in D₂/He atmosphere https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17453 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:04:14 AEDT ]]> Application of isotope mixing models to discriminate dietary sources over small-scale patches in saltmarsh https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17280 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:01:49 AEDT ]]> Influence of selected coal contaminants on graphitic carbon electro-oxidation for application to the direct carbon fuel cell https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20725 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:00:20 AEDT ]]> Les isotopes stables de l'oxygene et du carbone dans les speleothemes: des archives paleoenvironnementales https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5064 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:48:53 AEDT ]]> Transient climate response in the DICE integrated assessment model of climate-economy https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:29177 2). Central to any IAM is a climate model capturing the dynamic response of global surface temperature to changes in net downward radiative forcing due to the atmospheric accumulation of heat-trapping greenhouse gases. The transient climate response (TCR), defined as the temperature change at the time of CO2 doubling under a scenario in which CO2 concentrations increase by 1% yr-1, plays a central role in quantifying the economic impacts of climate change on policy-relevant timescales. In this paper, we propose an optimization-based methodology for computing the parameters of a climate model in such a way that the resulting model exhibits a specified TCR. The methodology developed in this paper targets the climate model parameterization employed in DICE (Dynamic Integrated model of Climate and the Economy), a widely studied IAM for which TCR is only indirectly specified. Results reported herein enable policymakers using DICE to compute optimal CO2 emissions pathways which directly reflect the TCR of state-of-the-art climate models documented in the most recent(Fifth) Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:44 AEDT ]]> Physical and chemical properties of biochars co-composted with biowastes and incubated with a chicken litter compost https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:29134 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:32:35 AEDT ]]> Rate limitations of lime dissolution into coal ash slag https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:4434 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:22:47 AEDT ]]> An analysis of Australian company carbon emission disclosures https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23535 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:16:59 AEDT ]]> Physical and chemical properties of biochars co-composted with biowastes and incubated with a chicken litter compost https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24066 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:09:39 AEDT ]]> Recent advances in food waste-derived nanoporous carbon for energy storage https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55793 Sat 22 Jun 2024 12:48:03 AEST ]]> Carbon trading practices adoption for sustainable construction: A study of the barriers in a developing country https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55778 Sat 22 Jun 2024 12:40:09 AEST ]]> Synthesis of high reversibility anode composite materials using T-Nb₂O₅ and coal-based graphite for lithium-ion battery applications https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46324 –2 composite presents a high capacity, outstanding cyclic stability, and superior reversibility. The newly developed composite of T-Nb₂O₅/CBG–2 indicates an initial specific capacity of 378 and 661 mAh g–1 at 0.02 A g–1 in the charge/discharge process. At a current density of 0.2 A g–1, the T-Nb₂O₅/CBG–2 composite materials can maintain a stable capacity of 216 mAh g–1 after 100 cycles. Moreover, after the current density has returned to 0.02 A g–1, it is possible to recover a large capacity of 416 mAh g–1, which represents the excellent reversibility of T-Nb₂O₅/CBG-2.]]> Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:44:37 AEDT ]]> Optimized electrolytic carbon and electrolyte systems for electrochemical capacitors https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36848 2CO3-Na2CO3-K2CO3 eutectic is used to produce highly amorphous carbon with considerable oxygen functionalization in a process focusing on the conversion of CO2 to value-added carbon. Electrochemical characterization of materials using multiple techniques in different electrolytes allowed for the optimization of these materials as electrochemical capacitor electrodes. Variation in capacitive performance of the investigated materials has been provided based on their physical characteristics. The synthesized carbons are hybrid materials, showing both pseudocapacitive and electric double layer contributions to the total performance. Annealing under nitrogen at 800 °C is shown to widen pores in the carbon material, resulting in an increase in medium scan rate (5-10 mV.s-1) capacitance.
